Introducing E.S.C.A.P.E.

Explore, Science, Communicating, and Paddling on an Estuary

At the Friends of Belmar Harbor, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, and sense of adventure that comes from being on the water. That's why we're excited to introduce our newest program:

E.S.C.A.P.E.

Explore, Science, Communicating, and Paddling on an Estuary

This innovative recreation program is specifically designed for individuals with special needs, providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where participants can connect with nature, build independence, develop communication skills, and enjoy unforgettable experiences along the beautiful Shark River.

A Program Designed for Every Ability

The E.S.C.A.P.E. Program combines outdoor recreation, environmental education, social interaction, and creative exploration into an engaging experience that celebrates each participant's unique strengths and abilities.

Our experienced instructors and volunteers work one-on-one and in small groups to ensure every participant feels comfortable, successful, and supported throughout the day.

Whether it's paddling through a quiet marsh, steering a sailboat for the first time, discovering local wildlife, or creating artwork inspired by the estuary, every participant will have opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun.

Why E.S.C.A.P.E.?

Research consistently shows that outdoor recreation and time spent near the water can improve physical health, emotional well-being, confidence, and social development. Through sailing, paddling, and environmental exploration, participants gain skills that extend well beyond the waterfront. Most importantly, they discover that they are capable of accomplishing more than they imagined.

At Friends of Belmar Harbor, our mission is to remove barriers to waterfront recreation and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the freedom and excitement of life on the water.
