brianhull@fobhnj.org

Brian Hull returns as the Executive Director at the Friends of Belmar Harbor, Inc. Brian grew up sailing Prams, Blue Jays, Lasers, E-Scows, Flying Scots and A-Cats at the Beachwood Yacht Club and Island Heights Yacht Club on the Barnegat Bay. After graduating from Old Dominion University, he began teaching Social Studies at Donovan Catholic High School in Toms River. Outside the classroom, Brian serves as the head coach of the Donovan Catholic Sailing Team. For the past twenty years, Griffin sailors have brought local, regional, and national recognition by participating in countless regattas around the United States. During this time, the team has won the Sailfest Trophy, the New Jersey State Championship as well as Connecticut State Championship and has participated in the ISSA National High School Sailing Championship for the Mallory Trophy five times. The team’s greatest achievement is allowing student-athletes to develop a passion for sailing that can be carried with them even after they have graduated from Donovan Catholic. A number of members have gone on and had successful intercollegiate sailing careers while in college. He also served as a regional director for the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association representing high school sailing in New Jersey. His involvement with sailing extends beyond the school. Brian began teaching sailing on the Barnegat Bay over thirty years ago at the Ocean Gate Yacht Club. He has run the junior sailing programs at the Island Heights Yacht Club, Mantoloking Yacht Club, Bay Head Yacht Club, Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club, Lavallette Yacht Club and Metedeconk River Yacht Club. While at SSYC, he was the co-founder of the Garden State Optimist Team which was formed to provide area sailors with the resources necessary to broaden their sailing horizons beyond the Jersey Shore. Brian was also a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Optimist Dinghy Association (USODA). Brian and his wife Liz reside in Toms River with their three children James, Henry and Caroline. They are members of the Toms River Yacht Club and Island Heights Yacht Club.
