Monthly Announcements

FOBH's Shark River Sailing & Science Board Members have been working hard over the winter to make 2024 a wonderful, successful year filled with the fun, hands-on activities for our youth programs and for everyone in the family.  See Board Member pages for more information.

Geoff Moritz will be returning as Director of Youth Programs and Head Sailing Instructor and is providing many recommendations during the winter planning period.

While registrations for our Adventure and Discovery Programs will be opening in March, our Sailing Programs will be limited this year to beginner Opti. We are currently seeking additional instructors for our Opti and 420 fleets and request that you continue to visit our website to check for registration openings as we are hopeful that these  instructor positions will be filled prior to our 2024 season.

Spring Specials are now available! Bring in a second camper and save $75 on your registration! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for additional news as well!

Learn why so many young sailors become successful, as students and in life.

We encourage our sailors who are turning at least 16 years old before next summer to earn their US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certificates and apply to become an instructor in 2024. See US Sailing website for information, or discuss this with one of our current sailing instructors.

A reminder, we need safety boat drivers to stand by during any on water member activities. Becoming trained and volunteering as a safety boat driver is a great way to help the organization. Member on water activities are usually from 2 hours before high water to 2 hours after high water.

FOBH is dedicated to making the environment at our Shark River Sailing & Science Academy safe and low risk. We are dedicated and very much look forward to teaching our community youth life skills which are best learned through learning to sail and introducing everyone to the natural wonders of our little bay.

See the membership page for more information about becoming a member in 2024.

  • Outboard specialists are very much needed and are eligible for a discount on membership dues.

  • Members are encourage to obtain a Safe Boating Certificate from the NJ State MVC to be able to maximize the enjoyment of boating.

All programs, activities, and events are subject to guidelines from US Sailing, the CDC, and state and local government and may be adjusted.

You may see a few of our staff and volunteers working on our boats and facilities.  Please contact us if you have any interested in volunteering by sending an email to Geoff Moritz at: youthprograms@fobhnj.org and/or our Dockmaster, Doug DeHays at: dougdehays@gmail.com.

Good information is found on the Programs page and the Life Skills Page of this website.
